Going Private/Relief Society Birthday

I am the counselor over Relief Society meetings. I need some ideas especially for the birthday celebration in March. If anyone has any ideas, please, please, please leave a comment. Any suggestions would be very, very appreciated.

Also, we've decided to make our blog private so if you want to be able to view it, send me an email or a message through facebook so I can add you.

sign me up. As for the birthday celebration, I can't really recall things done in years past. I seem to remember that one year that had a few sisters talk about what Relief Society means to them or how it has blessed their lives. I liked that because it makes it more personal. I'll let you know if I think of any more ideas.

RS Counselor? i suggest some inspiring testimonies from sisters about how sisters came together and did...you get the idea- testimonies of what RS did to change their live. That was abe's suggestion...

Hey, Jill, fun times. One year we hosted a "baby shower" where we played baby shower games and gave out prizes. The main part, though, was a service project where everyone brought baby items to give to a local group that took care of babies who had been removed from families right after birth. We also had a number of quilts up to be tied.

Another time we had a "hats off to relief society" night, where we involved as many women as possible. They came up with some kind of hat to represent a role we as women play--carpool mom, worker, nurse, friend, neighbor, mother, housekeeper, etc. Then it was all tied into a skit.
We've also used the night to launch a year of humanitarian service, introducing projects we'd be working on throughout the year--leper bandages, quilts for the children's shelter, etc.
I'll look back into my archives when I get a chance-- these are just the most memorable off the top of my head.

I just remembered one more--we actually threw a birthday party for the RS. Among other sweet remembrances of the early days of relief society, everyone brought a wrapped "gift" for our ward building's kitchen. It needed more washcloths and kitchen towels, potholders, etc. Those things are easily picked up at the dollar store so it's not an expensive burden on the "party goers."

I don't have your email. So, here's what we did in the closets. We took out everything out. It is a closet that opens with a door, so to the left and the right of the door are about 2 1/2 feet deep. WE put book shelves on one side. We did five, I think. We used these metal anchor bars that you can get at lowes in their closet section and then just cut up one of the boards that was in the closet before. There are support thingies that connect into those bars... this probably doesn't make a bit of sense. It might be easiest to go to Lowes and just see what htey have. ;0) Anyway, on the other side we used the same "bars" and got wire pull out baskets again from Lowes to put the boys' clothes in. :)
